MAZATLAN TRAVEL - MAZATLAN HOTEL AND HONEYMOON RESORTS
Mazatlan - Facts and Stuff
Mazatlan was not built by the Spanish or Indians but by German immigrants wanting the port so they could import farm equipment. It was founded in 1531 and is a fine melding of new Mexico and old Mexico.
There are some marvelous sights to see in Mazatlan. The Malecón (boardwalk) is 14 miles long – the longest in Mexico. Here you can see brave divers flying into a rock-laden ocean from high platforms.
El Faro boasts the second highest natural lighthouse in the world. There is a “million dollar altar” in the town church in Rosario, which makes for a fun day trip. Copola, an antique mining town, and Concordia are known for their pottery and colonial style furniture.
The Aquarium in Mazatlan has 250 kinds of fish and an art gallery, an interesting combo. The locals make their way to Stone Island where one beach begins where another ends and al fresco restaurants are everywhere. The Estrella del Mar is a top flight golf course and you can freshwater or salt water fish in Mazatlan.
Bullfights are held on Sundays and holidays. People enjoy their fiestas, and Mazatlan is no different. Their century old Carnival (Mardi Gras) celebration is second to none. The Festival of Arts runs from mid-October through mid-December and tourists can enjoy a variety of classical music, folkloric dance and ballet. The Angela Peralta is Mazatlan’s historic opera house which recently celebrated its 135th birthday.
Because of its northern location on the mainland, Mazatlan is generally cooler than the resorts further south. From November till May temperatures range from a pleasant 69 degrees F to 76 degrees F. From June through September, the temperatures jump about 10 degrees and it’s very humid.
Expect heavy rains from July thru September so keep that in mind when planning your trip. The best place to shop in Mazatlan is La Zona Dorada. Check out the Mazatlán Arts and Crafts Center, but remember they don’t take credit cards. For souvenirs and gifts reminiscent of the sea, check out Sea Shell City. For fine silver jewelry visit Gallery Michael.
Plenty of partying happens at night time in Mazatlan. Valentino’s is the area’s most popular club. For a fun outdoor club experience, don’t miss Bora Bora, where you can show off your moves with an ocean view. Coliseo’s Disco is one of Mazatlan’s biggest clubs and gets its name from the Roman ruin.
