Manzanillo - So Much to Do
World class diving is a mainstay of Manzanillo and while below the surface you can ooh and aah over the magnificent coral, sea horses, moray eels and whale sharks. Believe it or not, if you’re a diver, there are shipwrecks to explore in the waters off Playa La Boquita, one of them a sunken frigate only 28 feet below the surface. Every year there are fishing tournaments held in Manzanillo which helped give it the moniker, “Sailfish Capital of the World.”
You can walk to the beaches around Manzanillo including one of the most popular swimming beaches, La Audiencia. There is a hidden volcanic black sand beach in downtown Manzanillo where the swimming is wonderful. If you feel adventurous, you can head out of town a bit where there are many glorious, undiscovered beaches you can experience. As with most coastal resorts, there is plenty of water-bound activity in Manzanillo.
For surfing and boogie boarding, Santiago Bay is a favorite locale. Manzanillo also offers world class golf, horseback riding, rock climbing, mountain biking and kayaking. For those who like their activities on the dry side, check out the Hacienda de Nogueras, a museum that was once a sugar mill. You can take a tour to El Volcan de Fuego, Mexico’s only active volcano and is situated next to the Nevada National Park. El Salto is a terrific waterfall 100 feet high and is a favorite of tourists and locals alike. A short hour from Manzanillo you can see the Pyramids in Colima and the Old Church in central Colima.
Nightlife in Manzanillo is alive and well. The King Kong Dancing Club is casual and for the casual. The Colima Bay Café has a live DJ blasting techno music into the wee hours. Tropifiesta, one of Manzanillo’s hottest nightclubs, boasts Latin and tropical rhythms. The Vog Disco and Bar is one of the city’s nicer clubs, catering to young people.
