The Nahuas were the first natives before the Aztecs arrived. In 1521 a Spanish explorer came and named the land Santa Lucia. It became an important trading port between Asia and America and even attracted pirates like Sir Francis Drake. The city was destroyed during a war in 1810 and experienced a renaissance during the gold rush in Panama. In the 1950’s after much was done to grow the infrastructure of Acapulco, the rich and famous discovered it and made it one of their favorite vacation spots.
