MARRIAGE REQUIREMENTS IN MEXICO

American couples who wish to be married in Mexico need to be aware of the requirements for doing so. While different Mexican states may have slightly different requirements, in general, a couple marrying in Mexico must conform to the following requirements:

1. Valid Passport.
2. Tourist card provided by the airline.
3. Blood test is mandatory, and must be taken locally in Mexico. This test costs approximately USD $100.00 per couple, and this cost is not included in any of the wedding programs.
4. Four witnesses will be needed and may be provided by the hotel (The paperwork costs USD $10.00 per witness). The following information will be needed from witnesses:
• names
• addresses
• ages
• nationalities
• tourist cards & documents (passports or ID's)
5. Witnesses must have tourist card and photo ID If the witness is a Mexican citizen, only a photo ID is required.
6. Ceremony must be scheduled with officials at least one month in advance.
7. The bride, groom, and witnesses must be present in Mexico at the hotel at least 3 working days prior to the wedding day (this excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays).
8. The hotel will need all original documents required, and one photocopy.
9. Final divorce decree if either party is divorced; death certificate if either party is widowed.
