Wedding Planning 101: How to Make Your Dream Wedding a Reality
Most girls dream of having a fairy tale wedding when they grow up. Even at a very young age, you may already have had an idea of what kind of wedding gown you want to wear, what kind of wedding theme you want to have, and even an ideal location for your wedding.
As you grew up, certain details of your dream wedding might have changed to correspond with your current likes. Like many girls, you may even have gone to the point of planning a wedding entourage. Of course, the intended bridesmaids and groomsmen have always changed as your circle of friends evolved, or as you changed boyfriends.
But now that you are really engaged and are definitely on your way to the altar, you will have to start planning your wedding once again. Now, you will finally get your shot in making your dream wedding a reality.
Deciding on the Wedding Date
The very first thing you have to do when you're planning your wedding is to choose a date. Typically, the wedding date is a date that holds a lot of meaning for you and your fiancé. It is ideal to finalize the date at least 6 months before the wedding. The earlier you decide on a wedding date, the more time you have to plan for the ceremony.
Choosing a date might require more consideration than you might think. For instance, you wouldn’t want to get married on a date that is too close to another major holiday as this might be too stressful for you and your fiancé, as well as your friends and family who are invited. You might also want to avoid setting a date when the weather is likely to turn bad, disrupting an otherwise perfect wedding. Still, there are times when such events may not be circumvented, in which case you would need to have some sort of backup plan.
Creating the Wedding Guest List
After selecting a wedding date, the next step is to create a guest list and have the invitations printed out. The ideal time for mailing out the formal invitation is about a month or two prior to the actual wedding. However, you can also send out "save the date" cards or even informal e-mails about 6 to 8 months prior to the wedding just to let your invited guests know about the event and allow them to reserve the date. It might also be good to let them know that a formal invitation is to follow.
When creating your guest list, there are a number of factors that you have to consider, but the two most important are the size of the reception venue and the size of your budget. Obviously, you can't invite 300 guests when your chosen location can seat only 150. On the other hand, you can also create your guest list early so that you will be able to find a reception venue that can easily accommodate all your guests.
Shopping for a Wedding Dress
After you have taken care of these routine initial stages of the wedding planning, you can then proceed to the more exciting parts of the process such as shopping for a wedding dress. For most brides-to-be, choosing a bridal gown is one of the highlights of the entire wedding planning process. Some brides choose to buy ready-to-wear bridal gowns from wedding shops while others prefer having their wedding dress made especially for them. In both cases, there will surely be several fitting sessions to make sure that the dress will be a perfect fit.
The bride does not only have to select her own wedding dress but also the dresses of each bridesmaid. You will also have to choose the different flowers to be used for your bouquet and for the decorations at the wedding venue. If you are like most girls, you will already have planned your dream wedding multiple times in your head since you were young. If you make the right choices now, you can very easily turn your childhood dream wedding into reality.
