IXTAPA HOTELS - ALL INCLUSIVE HONEYMOON VACATIONS
Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo - The Twin Cities
You rarely hear about vacation locale Ixtapa without hearing Zihuatanejo (pronounced: Zee-wah-tah-nay-ho) repeated right after it. It’s like peanut butter without the jelly. Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo makes up a third of Guerrero’s Sun Triangle. Acapulco and Taxco are at the other ends of the triangle. Zihuatanejo’s history dates back to the 1500’s when pirates and explorers paid by the King of Spain discovered it.
The latter began shipping the valuable Madera wood that was plentiful there back home but it wasn’t until the 1970’s when Zihuatanejo began its real and rapid growth. Financed by money from the Mexican government, it became a beautiful and popular tourist attraction in short order, as it was happily discovered by visitors to Acapulco who liked to explore.
Ixtapa was virtually built by the Federal Bureau of Tourist Development (Fonatur) in 1968 in response to the overwhelming tourist trade. A huge coconut tree plantation was the site of its first resort and the large, modern buildings that were unwanted in Zihuatanejo were built and welcomed in Ixtapa.
It was designed to be a world class resort and it appears that in no time at all, it has achieved that status. The most popular beach in Zihuatanejo is Las Ropas Beach which offers low waves and many outlets for food along this longest beach in the city. Just north of Ixtapa is the beautiful Linda beach where a fenced swamp is full of lounging alligators at the entrance to the beach.
Las Brisas Ixtapa is a secluded paradise built into the side of a mountain surrounded by tropical vegetation with a view of the Mexican Pacific. It is also very affordable and a magnificant destination for an all inclusive honeymoon or wedding.
The Tides Zihuatanejo (a bit pricier) is a grouping of stylish adobe villas nestled in one of Mexico’s most beautiful beaches. It is surrounded by lagoons and waterfalls and perfectly private. It is considered Zihuatanejo’s most romantic hotel for your honeymoon or wedding and was named the Most Outstanding Hotel by Conde Nast.
The Sotavento Beach Resort (moderately priced) is in the middle of a palm tree garden and has direct access to La Ropa Beach. The rooms offer wonderful views and fitness, yoga and massage studios are available for the asking.
The Barcelo Ixtapa Beach Resort is an all-inclusive paradise located right on El Palmar Beach. Great restaurants, swimming pools and tennis courts are on the property and golf courses are just five minutes away. For the price, it’s a fabulous deal.
